Temp gauge

Ive just been down the motorway and my temp gauge started showing hotter then when I was stuck in traffic any ideas why this would happen there is plenty of water in the rad???

water flow and heat generated, first point is a partially open thermostat or radiator flow test.

flushed the system the other week

Might be worth checking that the flushing process hasn't moved the crap around and blocked the rad bottom pipe, or wedged the thermostat shut.
