Got to work this morning all fine on the run in but as I was pulling up to the traffic lights, LPG beeped and switched off and temp gauge needle went from normal (in the middle) to the red vey quickly, checked coolant level fine, LPG working fine!

Its a D2 4.0 V8, 95,000 on clock with no other known problems.

Suspect sensor, thermostat?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

easy to tell if it's the sender unit - switch on the ignition from cold without starting the motor - if the gauge goes into the red directly then you need a new one.

Dunt know much about V8's cept they sound nice, snap half shafts and dont swim well ;)

But I do know on't TD5 break in power from the immobiliser to ECU will produce the same symptoms.

I int sayin that is the case here just sumfink to keep in the back of yer ed ;)

Yeah started mine up one day and within a minute the temp gauge was creeping up, within 3 it was in the red.

Firstly, I bricked it.

Then I came to and realised there was no way it could have overheated so quickly from cold start.

And as it turned out, the temp sender had died overnight

Handy test by the way, somewhat subjective but nevermind, if you can hold the top radiator hose for any amount of time you are not overheating, even at full operating temp the hose is acceptable.

It's handy to get to know how that feels actually, always good to be able to judge engine temp by your top hose.
