Hi, has anyone tried removing the starter from a 2.4 TDCI? All I get is a click from solenoid and as everything else checks out, I want to hoik it out and clean up the terminals etc but I can barely see it there is so much pipework etc. I can even see the mounting bolts!
Any tips gratefully received.

I've done it after about 5 hours. No special tools required, just a lot of perseverance as you can't see it properly and access is awful. Cleaned up the terminals, oiled the bendix (if that's what they are called now) and all is well.
Only major problem (besides the access) is that when tightening the main positive feed, it must have twisted on its post and shorted out against the solenoid feed. I had to take it off to see this. My tip is to make sure you pull the heavy live cable away from the solenoid live as you tighten the cable.

So, if I got it right, you were able to remove the starter. Did you do it by the upside of the engine (i.e. removed all piping etc) or by under the vehicle? In either case, what did you have to remove? Thanks a lot!
