U saying it going forward with the selector in Reverse?

Look at cable connection to box first. Any dash messages?
Had rac out to it just, can not get reverse gear, drives forward in neutral and in reverse,no reverse-coming up transfer box in neutral,if I flick high-low it jumps back/clunks back, triedadjusting cable on side of box, still no reverse.

Transfer box is either in hi or low, if it was stuck in neutral then you wouldn't get any forward drive when engaging reverse or neutral.
so why no reverse gear?would this be an internal box fault, rac could not sort it and really had no idea, said needs going to garage to diagnose.

Ifully understand its in hi or low if it moves forward but display is saying transfer box neutral,i cant get reverse gear at all.

If I put back in park I can hear a noise like something trying to connect-sounds like transfer box motor trying to engage.does anyone know if a faulty transfer box motor would stop reverse?or would it be an internal box fault/rebuild jobby.

The transfer box cannot stop reverse, it only selects Hi or Lo. However as you have the pinging and transfer box neutral message, it does sound like it might be an electronic fault. It really needs to go on specialist diagnostics.
It's worth checking the battery voltage, low volts can cause all manner of problems.

just put a brand new battery on it,so deffo no fault there.im stumped on this one,so not transfer box motor, not gear linkage on side of box, what is it,any ideas folks?

Still worth checking the battery voltage, just because it's new does not mean it has not dropped due to a fault.
car starts fine,i will check voltage and see.rca bloke was pretty useless and could not say what was wrong.can there be an internal box fault that would stop reverse, although it moves forward?difficult to get professional diagnostics as I cant move the bloody thing.

It really does need diagnostics, have a look at the LZ map, there may be someone nearby who would come and run diagnostics on it for tea and biscuits.
I'm no expert on the GM box, but it could be an internal fault, the transfer neutral and pinging suggests otherwise though.
Seriously, low battery volts can cause many problems, you need to check the voltage engine off, minimum 12.6 volts, and engine running 14.8 volts or thereabouts.

Any idea what sences the transfer box is in neutral Keith? electrickery may be the problem but it is the auto box made of cheese.@Bemble may shed some light.

Hi Alan, I do not know the detail of the L322, but, like the P38, the shift is motor driven so the sensing contacts will be on the motor shaft/selector shaft.
