Hello,

I have a strange problem with my 2003 L322 that no-one can identify (on other forums, or at the garage I go to) where the problem lies, so I am hoping that people on here can help me out!!

Sporadically, the transmission goes in to “safe mode”. When it does this, the box continues to work perfectly, EXCEPT that the torque converter clutches don’t lock. Otherwise the box works fine. The gear changes are smooth!!

I have checked the errors, and it comes up as 0x30 Mechanical torque converter monitor: General fault.

The ‘box has been fully refurbished, and the garage have taken it all to pieces a second time to find the fault. They cannot find anything wrong. They have now replaced the torque converter a second time to be sure, but it is still doing the same thing.

Here are some videos of the fault codes that come up.

If you look at the videos, you can see that the live values for the engine ECU are giving very strange values.

Do you think that the problem could in fact be related to the engine ECU as I have already tried replacing the gearbox ECU and that hasn’t made any difference. The garage have checked the wiring, and that seems to be fine also.

We are all at a loss, and the LR garage here are worse than useless, so CAN YOU HELP…. PLEASE

Many thanks.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have been on the D2BC site for a LONG time, and have now been on the rrsport site, and the fullfatrr site, but no-one has been able to help me get any further with the problem, so I am hoping that someone here can lend some of their hard earned expertise!!

I’m no expert I’m afraid but what diagnostics are you using and when they fully refurbished the transmission was the valve body sent off for testing and having the sonnax mod done as I believe this is the primary cause of the TC failing in the first place.
The question about the diagnostic is whether something more Range Rover specific might give you more of a clue.

Battery is charging ok ?

Did the problem start after the refurb?
