L322 TD6 fuelling issue (@goldrover)

Soooooo, still waiting for Karen Yuill Recovery to turn up at Gibsons with her. Not bad considering she was supposed to be taken there by 0830 yesterday. Needless to say the AA are now on a one hour warning before I start getting litigious.
Two working days wasted.......... I hate civvies!:p:p:p
 
Well , she has finally been dropped off, amongst a flurry of excuses from the Karen Yuill driver. Apparently she started and ran, albeit roughly, so she could be moved at the garage. The injection system warning didn't come up. So back to wait and see.
 
Ok boys and girls, the Golden Girl is home. Picked her up at lunchtime, noticed 10 miles out that she had a scraping scream as she drove along, coming from the wheels somewhere. Phoned the guys and they suggested it might be rust behind the back plate (this will make sense further on) or the back plate scarping on something. So into Kwik-fit and it was fixed in two minutes. Back plate was slightly bent over.
Which leads on to solution. As I said, in an earlier post, she started when the mechanics tried her, although very rough, and the fuel injection system message didnt come up.
So they looked at other things. By putting a new crankcase breather kit on(suspected culprit in CC issue, run on from blockage)and a fuel primer pump, all is running as she should. Whilst there I also got two other jobs that I was going to book in this week, the sticking caliper (bottles of water much on last trip!) and front lower ball joints replaced.
Just over £700 later and my baby is back Happy me and 5 Hail Rangies said in thanks ;)
 
Glad you have had a resolution....Looked like it was on its way to being a diesel runaway which is when they begin to run on their own oil being ingested from - as you say - a failed breather, turbo seals, crack gasket or head, etc.

So the CC did indeed shut off as expected, but the engine was running on its own oil and as such, your inputs to accelerator and switching off of the CC did nothing to stop it running on oil....

Glad you had the foresight to pullover and she stalled/stopped before something went into over drive!

I think that's beyond my ken. The CC lights were still on and remained on until the engine stalled, so not sure if that means it did shut off? You'll know better than I :)
I'm just glad I'm not the type to flap :D

Addit: CC worked as expected on way home
 
Oh forgot to add, picked up by Karen Yuill on Saturday afternoon, told to put in secure storage and deliver to garage 0830hrs Monday morning. Left with over a quarter of a tank and trip meter recording miles door to door of run down south, she was missing until Tuesday afternoon. Picked her up today with trip having been reset at some point to zero and now reading 15.6 miles ( test mileage from garage), also fuel so low only 23 miles range in her! When I left her she had over 150 miles range left. I'd just checked everything as was about to come off m/way and I wanted to know if I had to stop at first services. Also when she stalled I checked fuel level, just in case I had had a grey moment previously.
I'm waiting to find out if the mechanics may have reset the trip, but can't see why they would. Also waiting for the AA to get an answer from Karen Yuill as to where my veh was for that time and why the fuel has gone down so low. Not to mention the dirty marks all over the interior of my door, my seat and my steering wheel.
 
Not sure if your fuel primer pump would have lead them to drain out fuel if it is in the tank, not done the job myself and not replaced it due to contamination, just a thought.
Hopefully they fitted the new BMW cyclone breather rather than the standard one that becomes blocked causing the breather issue and pressurised crankcase / run on which was my concern in the beginning which can turn out really bad as the engine runs to self destruct but the CC light remaining on sounds strange. If it is the standard foam filter type then it needs changing at your service interval, the part is only about £5 but the cyclone type is fire and forget and is about £30 i think.

Not sure mate, no mention of it and would think they would say about draining fuel and adding more or not. I think the pump might be outside (dont quote me) , as he mentioned ' when looking under he could se the bolts? were rusty and looks like it had never been changed in the life of the vehicle'. I could be lying and maybe he was talking about the breather? I wasn't really with it on Thursday when he was going through it all :confused:
If the trip meter hadn't been reset and the car AWOL for days, my spidey senses wouldn't be tingling ;)
I'll check which breather they've put on and in 15yrs when I've done enough miles for next service I'll get it changed :D
I think re run-on I may have been lucky and not forcing her to restart at the time was probably a saving grace.

Just had a look at the receipt and looks like it is the cyclone type as cost just over £25 inc VAT
 
Cool, should be the one although the original type could be that if OEM but they probably only just changed the original foam one so not a panic
 
Just a little side note and thought I would put it here, as the thread was, indeed, made for me.
Thank you to all who have asked about my health during this horrific bout of food poisoning. We now know the culprit, the campylobacter bacterium. The Dr reckons it will probably be the weekend before the symptoms wander off, to terrorise some other unwitting soul, Treatment is usually erythromycin , if Dr contacted during the worst part of the condtion. However as erythromycin often causes the very thing I'm trying to stop, there is little point taking it, unless I get worse again or don't make a recovery by the end of the week.
All I can add is lazy little git, hitching a ride in my gut. Next time it can walk!
 
I didn’t know you have been unwell, that trip down south nearly finished you and Goldie off by the sound of it !

I’m glad I missed Alan’s last party now, you must have picked up something nasty from his undercooked cocktail sausage he is always showing off !!

I've had an interesting time, to say the least. Thankfully the Golden Girl started first time, on Friday, and got me to the surgery and back without incident. I am recovering slowly but surely. Although due to go to Englandshire again soon, so we'll see if she and I survive :eek:
@tomcat59alan was a bit free and easy with the raw sausage. Although he has been a tad excitable without a broken RR to engage his attentions.

Erythromycin was the antibiotic prescribed to our Little Jacob - he had two doses, one in the evening and then one the next day in the morning - 40 minutes later we had the 'Emergency Rush To Hospital' episode....

It was anticipated and thought to be a reaction to the medication - from now on in our house it is referred to as Evil-Mycin.

Thanks Ant. I try to use erythromycin as little as possible, as it is one the few I can use, being allergic to both penicillin and cephalosporins! Had a cracker once, whilst coming round from operation. Having seen that from cannula to almost elbow was three times usual size I asked if there was penicillin in my drip. The nurse's reply " oh if there is , it'll only be a little bit". Even in my doped up state I could see the drug tracking up my arm, yet she thought it was ok. She got told in no uncertain terms to get the drip out of my arm , or I would be taking it out.
Best to stay away from all of them.
How is the boy? Is all ok now?
