Dear All,
I have an annoying oil leak from under vehicle, looks as though its coming from a recessed brass plug (allen key type) into aluminium just forward of the bell housing flange on the bottom of the engine. its accessed through a circular removable plastic panel.
So I thought that this may well be the sump plug. However when I went to buy a replacement off of ebay just now they look different - having a hex for a spanner.
Question - is this the sump plug or some other plug, only when i begin to unscrew it oil does start pouring from it.?

thx in advance

Hi Red, the std sump plug on a TD5 is a hex bolt with a copper washer.

Thx thebiglad,

Went to fit a new sump plug and washer and found it wouldn't match the thread in the sump.
It must be that at some point in its life the thread became worn out
and someone has re tapped a slightly larger thread into the sump, hence my confusion with the odd looking sump plug I had.
I think I might replace the sump at some point and get back to how it should be. wonder what the cost will be for that
