About all you can do without an oscilliscope is to check its not open circuit,(cant remember what the resistance value should be) then with it connected to a multimeter on a millivolt scale pass the tip of a screwdriver quickly back and forth across the tip of the sensor - you should get a reading. This is not really a definitive test - you need the scope for that, and seeing as it wont start at all Testbook is no help either.(Testbook will freeze / crash as you crank the engine).
Have to say the most common cause of non start on a TD5 is low fuel pressure, the crank sensor is very reliable.

You don't by any chance have the means to make up and sell me the fuel pressure guage kit?

Could do,but you might have to wait till I need to do a fuel pressure reg - need the bit of pipe that comes with it.Then its a nice push fit job,no spanners/jubilee clips.

Me first in line please .... I asked first ... !

My Turbo boost gauge is fun, and revealing sometimes.
