td5 white smoke and miss

my 04 td5 disco when cold going down a slight slope not accelerating sometimes starts to miss and smoke for a few secs then clears?????? it can do it a few times.
thinking its not the head as water still pink with anti-freeze and oil is same level and good.
any good ideas where to start???

I would think its more likely to be a bad injector.
Bad injectors are at their worst when injecting at idle or low throttle and when the engines cold.
White smoke is the diesel not burning and causing the misfire.

any idea how the best way to test the injectors is?

check the EGR, I had this problem till I removed it. Much cheaper to sort than an injector too.

EGR will give similar symptoms but will usually emit black smoke.

It could be as simple as an injector washer or even just condensation.

its been de-egr'd so looking like injectors, will a dealer be able to plug it in to find out?

yes a dealer can plug it in. It may not show the fault though.

touch wood i think i sorted it by getting a new injector harness and cleaning the red plug on the ecu.. :banana:

That is the first place I would have looked - it was on the tip of my tounge as I scrolled down to the end of this thread.
