td5 wheel haub and diesel pressure reg. leak

had it serviced today £315 for a full "b" service, whch i was happy with. needless to say it was not done by a dealer.
anyway during the service it became apparent that the rear nearside wheel hub assembly seal has sprung a leak, and so has the diesel pressure regulator.
the service was done in front of me and both faults shown to me at time of finding, so not concerned as to if they were "money making" faults.

has anyone had dealings with these faults.
advice and ideas please.

wheel hub bearings are easy to do. 1-2hrs work plus parts. when you get the new seal, prob worth renewing bearings while your there.

i hope that the seal can be replaced on its own and it does not turn into a whole hub assembly change.
it has only done 54k miles so would expect the bearing to be ok as this is a recent find.

I was under the impression on the TD5 that you could'nt just change the wheel bearings having to fork out for whole new hub! I think they call it progress

The rear hub seal is easy it is just a o-ring remove the caliper, disc and the 4 bolts at the back of the back plate and also the abs sensor needs to be undone.As regards the fuel presure reg on the head you need to get the fuel presure down other wise it could take your eyes out when you undo the unit,it should be done with the test book computer, but you can do it by gently tapping the crash switch under the bonnet so the fuel pump cut out and then starting the engine and let it run out of fuel so then the will not be much if any presure in the system,But then when you have put it back together read you handbook on how to prime the fuel system as if you had run out of fuel it is somthing like turn ignition on and press the acclerator pedal 5 or 7 time and listen to the fuel pump in the tank.If you have'nt got the workshop manual look at The Green Oval - Home and download the rave file and you will also find the microcat parts program to get your part numbers.

i was under the impression, from the mechanic, that it was to be a hub replacement as you cant just do the o ring.

I have done the o ring seal on my disco so I have looked out the part number for the o-ring,it is number FTC 4919.

The DiscoII certainly does have a Hub assembly on the front, approx. £200 each to replace (fitted). You cannot service the front hubs, only replace them (the assembly also includes some ABS components). I believe the rear ones are the same.
