Just done a 96k service on my D11 52 plate & while replacing the air filter, I removed the pipe to the turbo, giving access to it.
I have about 1mm play on the turbo bearings, is this normal?
Just changed the oil & it used 1/4 litre in 12k miles.
Not bad in my opinion.
Is this something to worry about?

should be minimal movement in the shaft...only 2things kill turbos overboost due boost leaks, running to much boost or lack of oil to the bearings due to blocked feed/return pipes or reving from cold/turning engine off after hard work without letting it idle for 2mins.

A small amount of movement when the engine is stopped is normal. The turbo spins on a film of oil which takes up the slack.

The oil consumption is excellent.

was the inside of the unit clean or was there sludge in it?

when you move it did the fins rub the caseing?

if you have either of these you could have issues

do you leve the engine to idle and allow the turbo to spool down before you switch off or do you just switch off the engine?
when you start up do you start and go or allow the oil to feed the turbo? before you hit the gas and get it spining up to 20 od thousend rpms???

Thanks all for the replies.
Was a cool engine &
"was the inside of the unit clean or was there sludge in it

It was clean & no sign of contact with outer casing.
I've always done a cool-down of my turbo's - 3 mins on the choppers I used to fly, so my worry's are greatly reduced.
Thanks a lot guys
