I'm just wondering if there are any differences between the 2 turbos.
I have the ability to get myself a cheap turbo out of a td5, and since my 300tdi is a little higher mileage, i thought about doing a swap or to have an extra turbo at hand.
Are they identical, or can they swap over?
Different fittings, mounts, etc?
Cheers,

The Td5 has far more electronics involved in getting it running so unless you like and/or are good at that sort of stuff I'd say that most people would say not to bother. Unless you're 300Tdi is knackered then there's little point in swapping them in my opinion - 300 will be cheaper and simpler to repair.

I think he's just talking about the turbos not the wohle engine.
They have different part numbers but that often dont mean a whole lot.
Best thing to do is sit the two side by side and do a direct comparisson.
If it fits chances are it will work. Even if it dont fit get it cheap and sell it on for beer tokens. Let us know how you get on.

I once had a Cosworth Sierra that ate clutches and Ford wanted silly money for a new one - nearly £400. Half an hour looking at the micro fiches and poking about in their parts bins (my mate worked as a Ford tech) and we found that the heavy duty clutch plate and cover from a Transit was the exact same item and less than a quarter of the price - £75. Different part number shown but the exact same part even from the same bin. Profiteering or what? I guess they thought that if you had a Cosworth you could afford to pay more for spares than a Transit driver.
