Disco 2 TD5 trans ECU versus V8 trans ECU

Being new to the D2 world, I have read lots of threads regarding the swapping of the transmission ecu’s between the TD5 and the D2 V8.
So for the sake of £30 I thought I’d try it, and here’s what I have experienced.
The V8 ecu changes earlier as most have pointed out, but I have found the gear changes are more frequent on hilly terrain making driving noticeably easier. Throttle response is much better, to the point that I haven’t yet used or needed kick down.
Still early days yet but very happy with the change over results. If anyone else has tried this mod how did you find the change and did you keep it.

You are one of the lucky ones, it happens but depends very much on the fuel map of the engine ECU and the part number of the trans ECU, it's more complicated than it appears, there are good and bad reviews on this mod, i've seen many scenarios, even the tyre dimensions are a factor so be happy with your result but dont think it's something generally valid.

Once I'd sourced the right ECU it's a straight swap plug and play. I carry the TD5 ECU in the truck so at any time I can stop and 10 seconds later the ECU,s get swapped. I'll keep an eye on the fuel consumption and keep you posted. It's only been a few days on the V8 ECU so we'll see how it goes, but so far so good and we'll worth the swap......for me anyway.
My icarsoft LR2 will read both ECU,s with no problems.

Thanks for the info, I did spend a serious amount of time researching the endless list of ECU,s. It is working well for my truck which is on 33inch tyres.

First of all, once you have bigger tyres with more than 5% than standard you must know that the whole engine and ABS management is mixed up bad cos all the controlls of the vehicle were calibrated from factory for standard dimension tyres if you see what i mean

Haven't we done this one before? And basically while this might be true to some extent. The practical real world results making **** all difference. There are litterally 1000's of D2's running on bigger tyres and plenty of other modified vehicles from other makers.
