hi folks, new member as of this morning. My name is Lee and I am pulling what little hair I have left over intermittent starting/ immobiliser problems I have with my 2005 110 td5..........any ideas ?

Good morning Lee,

Welcome to the Loonyzone.

Today you are in luck as there has beeen quite a few discussions recently regarding TD5's

You might find some answers using the search function top right hand side of screen.

For a specific question, like yours . You would be better off going to the defender 90 110 section and putting it there as it will get seen by more people who have those vehicles.

Cheers and Good luck.

Thanks Neilly, will do

When you post in the other section, try and be a bit more descriptive. Describe exact symptoms as you're experiencing. For example, turn key, engine turns over but doesn't catch. Engine management light and glow plugs lights on. Be as specific as possible as these kind of issues are very common and have a whole host of fixes so narrowing it down will help (for time and money)

...and welcome to the bottomless pit

Should have added, unlock the car with the fob, put key in ignition to position 3 all lights come on, when glow plug light extinguishes, try to start, solenoid clicks but engine will not start, numerous repeats of the sequence and it eventually starts

tbh, that sounds to me to be more than likely a dodgy solenoid / starter.

But, I could be wrong.

Is the vehicle new to You? or is this a new problem and before it was OK?

Cheers

PS, You would still be better putting the above info into the defender forum , as it will get seen by other deffy owners who may know the fault and the answer.

Cheers

Thanks Neilly, it has just started playing up, had the Defender for two years now, I will post in the Defender section

Reading disruption, I'd say starter motor (if click is coming from engine bay)

Next time it does it, give the starter a whack with a bar and see if it starts after that. I got away with doing that for a good few months...
