I'm interested in buying a snorkel but not sure which make to go for ,have seen cheap ones on eBay as well but are they any good ,any suggestions or comments would be appreciated

Matt

I bought a Paddock cheepy one for about £69. It does the job but has discoloured within a year. If I was doing it again I would go for the Mantec one. You get what you pay for. The Mantc one looks the business. Mine looks cheep. It all depends how deep your pockets are and what state your Defender is in. Lots of people like the Safari. I think they are a bit more expensive but to my mine don't look as good as the Mantec. The choice is yours.

Safari's look the best I'd say, the mushroom ones look daft and the Mantec ones look too 'steamline' and 'smooth' to be on a Defender a big rectangular hole looks better :D I know mine's a 200tdi but same thing :D Put a stainless hose clip on mine, painted the grill silver and put stainless screws on it too :cool2:

just get a quality mushroom top. you dont need a safari or a mantec one if you dont want one.

In fact i took my mantec one off because it was not the look i wanted.

This is the one ive got.

Land Rover Defender 300 TDi TD5 or Puma Snorkel Kit | eBay

Easy to fit and does the job.

I bought the same one following BGB's recommendation and I have to say I am well pleased with it, fairly easy to fit and looks strong and robust, unlike some of those plastic jobbies.

The Mantec is great and a mushroom top is the most effective for the job. The safari looks good but there are so many options it is up to the buyer to decide. I wouldn't buy a snorkel with an intake that face forward as this would be crap in dusty/sandy conditions.
If all you are interested in is looks rather than functionality then just buy what you like. If you are going to be wading deep or driving through sandy/dusty conditions then think carefully.
Its a buyers market!

You can turn the safari to face backward as and when required.

If you wade and manage to fill the safari from the top then you have gone too deep

I know the safari is made of plastic but dont think it is easily damaged. It will get scratched like anything on the side of the truck. Had mine on now for a few years and and have put it through all sort with the truck and its still in one piece. Except the grill!

The only thing I would suggest is to buy the metal grill as the plastic grill do tend to get smashed by the overhanging branches

ive had my safari bent in 2 on a branch, it sprung back immmediately with no damage, and it took the weight of the 110 led on its side, some scratches but no real damage, i can't see many others standing up to that sort of punishment

The material the snorkel is made out of is very tough isn't it? I think you would struggle to break one, unless you rolled over
