Hi,
Yes, I thought it might be residual ****e some where in the system. Thrashed the **** out of it for half an hour on the motorway. Soon as I pull up and let the engine idle the smoke appears.
Will check that the new turbo is not ****ing oil into the inlet tomorrow, after that...........
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi,
Checked my now clean hoses and no sign of excess oil so my new turbo looks healthy. I have to say though the amount of smoke has reduced quite a bit. Still not back to normal but no longer at embarrasing levels. I am thinking maybe an injector playing up perhaps?
I would like to look at it using a nanocom or hawk eye, is there any one in the Southampton area who has one of these and would like a slab of beer for their trouble?
Cheers,
Mike.

I have now officially run out of ideas on this, its still smoking more than the MOT man would find acceptable. Going to book it into the local independant next week for an hour of 'Test Book analysis'.
I'll let you know the outcome.
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi,
Not sure how to compression test No 5 cylinder, the other four through the glow plug holes? Had an hour of analysis at the local indie today. What a complete waste of £58 quid. After clearing stored faults and a road test they tell me my injectors need testing, and they can't do it. They did however say cylinder balance was acceptable, and the FPR is leaking. Seems a fair bit of money for not much. I'll have a chat with the local injector specialist before the next move. Hoping the copper seals may be at fault rather than the injectors, be looking at both as I go. Got a new FPR to fit probably to much to hope that this is the cause....
Cheers,
Mike.

TD5 injectors are ultra reliable. I can honestly say I've never come across a dud one yet and I've driven, and fixed, TD5s in some god awful countries under extreme conditions with minimal tools. Its normaly the O rings or copper washers that cause injector problems.

Cheers Shifty,
Land Rover copper washers and O rings will be on order later today for yet another weekend of spanner fun. I'm planning to fit the new FPR and remove inspect/clean (carefully) and refit the injectors.
Thanks all for the advice, I'll keep you posted,
Mike.

You can clean the tips of the injectors by soaking them in oven cleaner for five minutes or so. Dont use wire wool or anything abrasive and make sure they are spotlessly clean before reassembly. Also make sure they go back in the correct cylinder position.

Thanks Shifty,
Got it sorted, the end of the sorry story is in a separate post titled TD5 Injectors removed for inspection.
Thanks all,
Mike

Apologies for digging an old thread but did you cure this? Also what colour was the smoke?

Cheers
