TD5 rev counter

So while im in the mood to create work on the 90 for myself. Ive thought about adding a rev counter but looking on ebay and a few other sites there £150! £150!!!!!!!!

anybody know where i can get one cheaper? or better does anyone have one for sale? lol

Would that work with a tdi though?

It says it's for a single coil, I.e. A petrol motor.

I'm looking for a rev counter also. Devon4x4 have one for £116 with the instructions on the website, seems to have different settings for running off the alternator rather than a coil. Any ideas whether these Tim ones could do that to?

yeah same question from me. I was always led to believe that diesel tacho's were different from petrol tacho's and you cant use one on the other?

Ill be happy to find out thats incorrect because i have a butt load of tim tacho's at home for my mini's. If thats the case mundungus you can have one for the price of the postage. lol

I fancy the original TD5 one so its all the "same" but then again i dont want to pay all that money!

Sorry - honestly don't know 100% whether the TIM ones would work off the alternator, but from a quick google I suspect you'd need a separate pulse converter to work alongside.

Believe this converts 2 pulses per rotation from the alternator to 4 - forums (google search) admit to their existence but I've not easily found one to give you a steer on price etc.

One to contact the manufacturer about I'm afraid

Suggested only because I used their turbo, voltage and oil pressure gauges alongside the Landy originals

Agree with wanting to buy the original desires - but what a lot of pennies.

If you'd be happy with a digital tacho, then Tiny Tacho Uk do one for diesels which sounds as if it's easy to fit (it merely counts the pulses on the fuel injector pipes its transponder is clamped to - clever, huh?).

No good on a TD5 as the injectors dont have fuel pipes. The fuel lines are internal in the cylinder head.

The TD5 tacho measures the signal from the crank position sensor. Sorry but cant remeber what pin on the ECU plug it is. When I get a moment I'll go have a look where mine is connected.

I dont think you can use a "normal" alternator type rev counter but I'm prepared to be proven wrong.
