Sounds very similar to the symptoms I had when my fuel pump failed. Fine up to around 30mph then juddery with very little power.
Turn the ignition to position 2, can you hear the pump priming? (Steady whining from the fuel tank area)
Good point. That's another possibility, and even if it's priming it can have the HP side gone

Undo the pipe from the pump to the fuel filter, (into a container) then ign. pos 2. If you get a strong jet of fuel, the pump is ok. If it's a dribble, it's fecked...
No... That's not relevant cos at the filter it's only LP anyway and the flow is not strong, the HP feed doesn't go through the filter, it goes directly to the head, to check te HP the correct way is to insert a gauge into the FPR instead of the FT senor

It is relevant, it's a starting point. It can sound like it's priming but not be drawing fuel properly, for example if the mesh at the bottom of the filter is blocked or the in tank pump is failing but not quite dead. That was the test a landy specialist I know well told me to do. In the end I didn't need to, when I realised it wasn't priming at all...
If it's ok at that point, move on to the FPR.

It's when all the boost gets to the inlet then the ECU cuts fuelling to protect the engine, it can be the result of failed wastegate mdulator or stuck wastegate... see this http://www.discovery2.co.uk/wastegate.html ... in the 3'rd picture see the pipe pointed as "to metal intercooler..." take a longer piece of pipe and connect the intercooler side with the wastegate or join it somehow with the one from the right which goes to the wastegate...if after that the symptom is gone replace the modulator... meanwhile make sure that the mechanical wastegate is not stuck closed... follow the video untill the end ... also if it's Eu3 engine unplug the MAF for a drive test as well

+1 ^^^
Sounds exactly like this, removing the back bolt on the heat shield over the turbo is a pain but worth it just to get to all the gubbins and sort it out. Mind you, it could just be the nuts holding the actuator have come loose or off. Happened to me!
(Edited. Looks like you have already got as far as this!)

Ok folks update.fitted genuine modulator, checked nothing was seized etc.
Still loses all power.haave to switch off then on again.took it to local garage.fault codes show three injector failure.they fitted new injection harness, did find some oil in red plug.
Drove 240 miles off the bat,all fine.turned off motorway ,it's done it again.
Switched off switched on off I go .one mile later same again. Switched off switched on and then ok.
Really had enough

Looks like something electrical is getting a dodgy signal which is telling the ECU you have overfuelling. This is where I stand back and let the likes of SF take over.
