for future reference when i am looking at buying my next discovery which is the better doozel engine as best mpg / performance/reliability / cost of maintenance and spares / etc bearing in mind my budget will probably let me get one with 80 to 100k on it

The Tdi is easier to work on if you're doing your own maintenance and won't give you all the electronic headaches that the TD5 will. It'll be an older vehicle so rust becomes an issue. As far as I know there's not all that much in it performance/MPG wise...

".... make your choice and accept jesus into your life today" No thanks, I prefer the freedom to think for myself.

oh you can still think for yourself mate , you just follow a set of guidelines that will see ya to safety rater than end up burning in hell for all eternity , but if that's what yer want carry on your way ....

As said the 300tdi is easier (cheaper?) to maintain however, the TD5 on road performance is smoother and quicker to get on the move than a 300tdi IMHO.

Off road the TD5 hates deep water...........NUFF SAID!!!

Dave

I feel that it is best to believe in all religions, just in case one of them is right. And beware Mrs Cake. (very Pratchett, that )

To get back on topic. Simple:- 300TdI Complex:- Td5, you pays your money, you takes your choice.

As I am simple, I have a 1997 300TdI with only 69000 on the clock.

Philip.

'course the sensible man would run with the TD5 & only replace it with a TDI when the TD5 engine dies.

FFs after all that confusion i will go to church on sunday in my Td5 and prey it will get me back home again. If it does'nt i will replace it with a 300Tdi and not go to church ever again....I THINK..Mabee..Not sure...derr **** it i'me going back to bed.
