Your choice of oil depends largely on the temperatures you can expect where you live. I use 5W/30.

5w/30 semi.

I have read fully is almost "too good" and can actually help leaks!:confused: haha

Stick with what LR say, 5w/30 semi synth. Dont forget to change both oil filters, ideally genuine or equivilent.

As Brian said, and there's the chart he supplied (right out of the user handbook, no less ;) ). I use 5W30 Castrol stop/start Magnatec, as at the last change, about a month or so ago. So far, The Maroon Monster (My D2td5) is looking and sounding fine with it :D

I got 20 Ltr of 5W30 Semi oil for £45 that meets the std in the owners manual.

At that price I can happliy change it more often than buying more expensive premium oils.

Cheers

I have had these conversations on many car forums over the years. I think it's true to say that no car has ever failed due to the quality of oil used (supermarket v Mobil 1 etc) but many have failed due to lack of oil changes.

I recon that's probably true.
I use Halfords own synthetic oil, its made by Comma and cheap enough to allow frequent changes, especially if you have a trade card or wait until they have an offer and stockpile it in the shed. I prefer 5W 40 I think after 118 K miles the engine is a bit less rattly using that.

I have just done our oil change using Halfords fully synthetic 5W 40W oil. It was £15 for 4l but they only had one 4l so the second one they gave me was 5l for the same price.
