Just an observation on the main TD5 oil filter. I took off a Mann oil filter and replaced it with a Coopers filter and found that it's not possible to get my chain wrench between the bottom of the filter and the the turbo oil pipe as the Cooper one is slightly deeper. I know it's only supposed to be hand tight but it's difficult to get enough purchase with your hand and I just wanted to give it an extra tweak with the wrench and of course I have got to get it off at some stage.

I find it can be a pain in the arse getting my oil filter off on my TD5 defender but haven't had any real problems yet. I bought a strap wrench to replace my chain wrench cos I thought it would be easier. I've since found that filter pliers are the quickest way of getting to it. Once it's cracked off I tend to use my hands anyway. Tightening up the new filter I've had no problems doing it by hand.

I always "nip" mine up with oil filter pliers, they can and DO come loose if only hand tight, which is a problem really because everyone has different strength in their hands.
