Disco 2 td5 oil cooler replacement

Hey up lads. Is there a guide on how to change the oil cooler on a disco 2 td5?

I've searched but not found any walk through type post.

Never worked on a td5 so want to read up on it.

Yeah I saw that on YouTube. Seems a good write up. Would be good to see something with it done in situ so you can see access and stuff.

It's not that bad to do really, done it on mine. biggest pain will be getting the turbo out of the way.

If you've bought the repair kit from britpart make sure you use the green o-rings and not the black ones...

Cheers Benneh, Ive not picked up the disco yet (will be doing at the weekend) but its got a known coolant leaking into oil problem so fingers crossed its just the cooler

OMG ... walk away if you still can, the oil cooler will let oil in coolant in most cases not vice versa, coolant in oil can be much more serious problem like cracked block or something.

sorry its in the coolant.. not in the sump

+1 to what fery said, probably cracked exhaust port if that was the case, but oil in coolant way more likely to be the cooler corroded - might also be a sign that some nugget has run the car on water and not coolant....

It was the right price. Even if it was the head.

Jumping on old thread ware is the radiator for the oil as I can not seem to see it on the front is that it

That's the aircon condenser.

If it's an auto the oil cooler is below the intercooler.
If it's a manual it probably doesn't have one unless it was ROW spec.

Found it now but struggling to locate the temp sensor is it on the rad I've read a thread regarding about taking drivers wheel off and it's much easier

Resurrecting an old thread, can you do this in situ without removing the exhaust manifold?

My D2 started taking a long time to get to the mid position on the temp gauge, so I decided to swap the thermostat as this was the most likely culprit.
Sadly there was some oil in the coolant and the thermostat was oil contaminated - which probably caused it to fail. There is no coolant in the oil thankfully and the engine runs as sweetly as it always has, so the O rings in the oil cooler are probably shagged.

The job itself seems straight forward, but after a bad experience with my son's D90, I would much rather not touch the exhaust manifold if I can avoid it.

I guess yes. I have not dome it yet, but when I removed the turbo I remember that there was quite enough space to work on it.
