Hello All,
just wanted a bit of advice, a friend of mine has a 110 td5, and
it apperently has a lot of slack in the oil pump drive chain.
Has any one replaced one of these chains and if so what kind of
a job is it to do? Im guessing its not going to be nice!!!!.
your comments most welcome
ta muchly !!!:behindsofa:

How have they diagnosed the oil pump chain as being slack? I've never yet seen one that has stretched as its too short. Its more likely the timing chain tensioner thats not working.

Not an easy or quick job.
Item 14 in attached picture.
Timing chain casing has to come off which means dismantling the front of the engine.
Bottom pulley can be a b*stard to get off.
Oil pump chain runs behind the timing chain and does not have a split link so timing chain has to come off along with both sprockets as no tensioner on the oil pump chain.
Make sure you use thread lock when replacing oil pump sprocket bolt.
To do it with the engine in the motor also means taking the grille, radiator, air con condenser (if you have one).
Not a job for the faint hearted.

The oil chain does have slack in it. On Td5's its the oil pump bolt that holds the cog thats the worry. As shifty says, thread lock the bolt or use a nord-lock washer
