Hi guys, I wonder if anyone can help with a problem I have on my 2002 TD5 defender.
A year ago some lowlife tried to pinch it and snapped the barrel off. I had the local Landy specialist fit a new one at the time, and ever since the spring seems a bit strong - sometimes the ignition springs from position II to I before starting the engine. It has always started easily though and once on has stayed in position.
Last week I was driving and the engine suddenly cut out as the key has sprung into I position. It started again straight away but kept trying to spring back 'off'. I managed to get it hope by keeping my hand on the key for the way back.
Now when I try to start the engine I put the key in position II and the oil light comes on as normal and I can hear the fuel pump working, but when I turn to III there is just silence (no solenoid clicking) and no attempt to start. I got it going the other day after 10 or 15 attempts but tried again today and had to give up after trying for 15 minutes.
I'm fairly sure it's not the battery - when it did start it started first time and it's fairly new.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I plan on replacing the barrel at some stage because of the spring but I think there's more to it than that with the new problem?
Thanks
