Hi all,
Just in case you haven't seen my thread of cracked cylinder head. I thought I would post this as it may be useful to some of you in tracking down cause of white smoke.
It all pointed to a cracked cylinder but the mechanic tested it with a coloured dye and no leaks through the chambers. So scratching his head for the umpteenth time! He checked the connection of the exhaust to the head. And low and behold it was a faulty Heat exchanger (see picture) which cools the exhaust gases. The coolant and exhaust gases were mixing in the exhaust and creating white smoke.
So worth a check before ordering that new cylinder head!
Here is a photo of the Heat exchanger.
