Just curious if anyone had any opinions on changing / swapping in new Lash Adjusters if changing the head.

I've sourced new stretch bolts for the head, cam, and injectors, but curious if I should throw more money at this job by buying new Lash Adjusters or Cam Followers? Engine has 160,000km on it.

Thanks.
Don

It depends on how far you want to go with your overhaul. Maybe if you're intending to keep the engine for a long time it might make sense to renew as much as possible. Equally, there's a lot of material on this forum where people have dismantled quite high mileage examples of the TD5 engine and been surprised how little wear there seems to be on many of the components. So have a good look, and if there's no visible signs of wear or fatigue then maybe they can be trusted to go back in for another round.

@Brown Thanks for all of your input on this matter. I guess I will replace them since they aren't a high dollar item. Question, I've seen a couple of videos on other types of lash adjusters to "pump them up" . It looks like just a few pumps with oil on them, and leave set upright. Probably pour a bit of assembly lube on them during assembly. I'm I missing anything else?

Yes, my understanding is that they just full of oil and this gradually increases to compensate for any wear. I think assembly lube might be a bit sticky and gooey so I'd use whatever oil you normally put in your engine. Assembly lube is fine for things like bearing shells where you want it to hang around until the oil pump has started pushing the engine oil round all the galleries and drillings.
Last time I assembled an engine I couldn't find any assembly lube so used chain oil for the chainsaw. It said 'more cling, less fling' on the container. This wasn't my TD5, it was for something else. Seemed to be perfectly happy though.
