Hi,
I have a TD5 110 that has a KM speedo currently reading 82,118, I'd like to change it over to a miles one but want to make sure the mileage reads at correctly 51,026 miles.
If I buy a second hand one how is this possible?
Where i can take/send the speedo to have it done?
Is the mileage held anywhere else?

Any idea's? Thanks

You could always try and buy a second hand one with less mileage on it and wind it up to the correct figure. To reduce the mileage is a lot more complex. When I fitted a TD5 speedo to my defender (to replace cable driven version) I managed to connect the speed signal terminal to a pulse generator and used that. With the correct settings you can get the mileage to clock up at something like 1000mph. If you don't have access to a pulse generator you could always connect it up, remove the speed sensor from the Tbox and spin it in a drill. Don't know what speed you can get up to using that method so may take a little while.

To change it without resorting to run-up circuits or drills, you have to access the EEPROM chip on the PCB. There's a chap on LR4x4 who can do this for you, his name is CwazyWabbit.

Or you can send it to a company like Digidash to do it for you at a higher cost.

Thanks for this, I will make contact with both of these and see how I go.

What do you mean by chang it to km and change the face?

By editing the EEPROM you can change it to work in miles or KM. If you change to miles it will then work that way BUT the dial will be wrong so you'll need a mile dial off a broken gauge or stickers etc.

Alternative would be a pulse changer that takes the pulse from the sender and sends out pulse in the KM to mile ratio.

i.e. it sends out 125 pulses for every 201 it receives thus displaying the speed in mph on a kph speedo. The only down side to this option is that the existing odometer reading will be wrong so you would need to take the existing reading and re-calculate e.g. 210000km = 210000/1.608 = 130597 miles (so you would have to make a note of that calculation and the odometer would now read in miles BUT be out by 210000-130597=79403 miles so would always be out by that number of miles.
