I was doing the sump gasket yesterday and found two pieces of metal in the sump.

It looks like a washer of some kind, split in two or possible even more parts, made of hard metal, the inner and outer diameter are smooth, the ID is roughly 14mm.

Where it could come from??

The engine runs ok, no misfire, starts ok, does not smoke, nothing knocks, does not take oil, no diesel in the sump.

Just a thought. Is it possible a previous owner has tried to use a hard metal sump plug washer instead of a copper one and it has broken up and ended up in the sump? Stranger things have happened.

It wouldn't get in as the plug fills the hole in the sump. This is something out of the engine i think, but i have no idea what!

Wonder if it could be a circlip off one of the pistons ? The size is about right , but not shaw if its possible for one to come out .

Yes, that was my first thought. But this thing is way too small to be that circlip - the gudgeon pin has OD 30mm.

While you had the sump off, did you check the oil-pump retaining bolt for tightness?

yes, it was tight..actually, it was replaced with a new one with thread-locker (genuine LR part) last year. The original one did not have any thread-locker.
