I am not sure if anyone has any opinions on this topic, but I am at the point on my Td5 head rebuild / head gasket replacement to put the cam carrier on. My cam is laying somewhat uneven in the cradle due to the lobes of the cam touching the finger followers & Lash Adjuster Bodies. Lash adjusters seem stiffer than one would think requiring considerable force get them seated.

The lash adjusters can be bleed down at the top opening with a paper clip in order to decrease the pressure within them. Would this be a recommended technique in order to decrease the required force when torquing down the cam carrier? Or would it be recommended to leave them as is (under pressure), and just torque down in the proper sequence on the cam carrier bolts?

Side question, if these lash adjuster bodies are bleed down, do they self prime easily once the engine is started and there is oil pressure? Or is this a dangerous move, potentially causing damage?

Thank you,
Don

Here is an excellent tutorial on lash adjuster cleaning.
It isn’t Td5 specific, but is a great overview.
