TD5 Head Gasket?

Evening All,

My Disco TD5 has now decided that this weeks challenge will be over heating, last week was suspension.....

Towing my large stock trailer yesterday it managed to use 8 litres of water every 15 miles!!!!. There are no obvious leaks, so I tied a bottle under the header tank over flow pipe and collected 1/2 a litre in 5 miles when running solo. I changed the water pump 6 weeks ago and the top hose. The top hose is rock hard when the engine is running.

Am I correct in assuming the head / head gasket has failed? if so is there a thread on how to change it?

Sounds like typical hg failure. Might be worth trying a thermostat just to be on the safe side but it certainly does sound like hg.
