Hi I have an 02 disco td5 xs auto. It has been having a prob changing gear when you put your foot down to overtake, it lunges? This was an intermitant problem but now the s and m light flash when changing from drive to reverse and vice versa, again this is intermitant? You have to turn the engine off for the later problem for it to reset? Spoke to the garage and they said that it wouldn't need an ATF oil change until 90+k miles? it has had a full landrover service history up until 80k ish miles? Anyone got any ideas? Should I just book it in for and ATF oil and filter change regardless of what the garage said?

could be elecrical or mechanical check oil care fully when drained to look for mechanical problems clutches should leave bebris

could be a gear selector lssue - worn or poorly adjusted. Personally I change gearbox oil every year and the filter every 2... though I accept this is more often than suggested by LR

If this happens when changing gear, it's probably the switch on the side of the gearbox that reports the current gear to the various ECU's. Mine started doing this when I had an underbody wash done, and also when it's been very cold recently. It could be the switch needs adjustment, but if the switch has failed, it's £300+ (they've nearly tripled in price during the last couple of months). Other posters on this forum have had good results spraying the switch with WD40, though it's a fiddle to get to - on the left hand side of the gearbox but the exhaust is in the way.

Cheers!
