I recently got my clutch disc/pressure plate and bearing replaced. While my mechanic was at it, he rotated the flywheel while it was still on the engine and it rotated a little bit with great force and went reverted back to its position.

He said something is wrong with it some bearing probably but he wasn't sure cuz he generally works on 300TDIs mostly and doesnt have any td5 experience.

I inquired about it and came to know that many 5 cylinder engines have a fixed clutch disc and theres no sprung hub. And instead the flywheel has springs in it to balance out the crank shaft.

Is this true? Does TD5 flywheel has springs in it? was that spring like movement of the flywheel normal or should I be worried about something?

Thanks!

The TD5 has a dual mass flywheel. The centre of the flywheel is able to move against damper springs relative to the outer part of the flywheel when the clutch is engaged. Normally these springs would be in the clutch disc assembly as you stated.
There is nothing to worry about.
