Hi all.
Probably a daft question - not my first.
I had a snapped exhaust stud - managed to get it out and am replacing them all with longer studs and spacer kit. Manifold skim as well.
I believe the studs should be torqued to 25nm (same as the nuts). But as I’m tightening the studs, they seem to be going into the head further than the originals. Do it keep tightening until they bottom-out and torque them up then? I was pretty sure the originals studs were not bottomed out in the head (could be wrong but the holes seemed deeper than the thread on the stud) and don’t want to push them in too far and damage anything.
These new studs have a much longer section with no thread on them and I don’t want to put them in so far that this section starts to hit the thread in the head and damage it.
I have the shorter threaded section in the head - this is the same length as the originals - and from what I can see online, this is how they should be fitted, with the long unthreaded section allowing for movement on the spacers etc.
Any advice appreciated - do I just keep tightening until they bottom out? thanks!
