Hi people,
Iv got a full td5 engine (15p)
Excelent condition with 74,000miles
Just wondering what is the bast thing to do with it, sell it complete or sell it in bits
Any thoughs appreciated

Thanks Aaron

I'll give you £50 for it. :D
Seriously though have a look on eBay and see what some of the breakers are selling them for. They are not cheap and you dont know what the provenance of the engines are. Yours is worth more if you can show its not stolen and has been stored undercover. I paid £4k for my army surplus one but it was brand new and complete with all ancillarys - literally plug and play. LandRover wanted more than £8.5k + vat for a barebones engine and they were on back order for more than 10 months ?????

Thanks shifty just looked on ebay and the only people that seem to be selling them are brakers. obviously breakers are going to ask for more money than i am, or is this not the case? Also you say prove its not stolen, is there a way i could run the numbers and find out?
Thanks Aaron

Breakers dont look after anything. They leave them sat around in mud and ****e out in the rain and throw them around with no regard for any damage they cause. I'd pay more for yours than from a breaker purely for them reasons alone.

Where did you get the engine from? I assumed you had taken it out of something you previously owned. How do you know what mileage it has done?

yes it was out of mine that i rolled so no the milage is correct.
Only stripped it as chassis was bent as a bannana and dint fancy takling a re-chassis. was thinking the engine number will be on the log book is this correct.
you never no with landrovers though thats the reason i ask
Thanks Aaron

As it came from your own rolled motor, which I assume you could prove has been scrapped, then the engine is not likely to be stolen unless it was before you bought it . That alone is peace of mind for any potential buyer. Also the mileage should be shown on your MOTs so once again its all to the good. The engine number should be on the V5C (log book) which is another bonus :)

Put it on the for sale board and wait and see. A recon short engine from somewhere like Turners costs £1500 excluding VAT and thats an exchange unit. A full engine is £3.5k excluding VAT as an exchange unit. No servicable exchange unit and you'll pay a lot more. A TD5 cylinder head alone is £1100 plus VAT. All these dont come with the injectors, flywheels, manifolds, etc.

So I reckon you could easily ask £2k for a complete engine and not be taking the ****. Some of the junk that I was offered for circa £2k was not a lot better than scrap in my opinion and two engines were conveniently missing their engine numbers. Told plod at the time but heard nowt since.

Thanks for the help shifty, got a load of mot certs, so you think advertise it at 2k and see what happens? :)
Got every thing with it, full engine fly wheel and clutch loom ecu radiatior intercooler exhaust all pipes engine mounts and so on
Thanks Aaron
