evening all, thought I might get some advice, I somehow managed to single handedly catastrophically destroy my TD5 engine of only 112,000 miles 2004 defender 90 I'm the 3rd owner bought 3 years ago..... she's currently in the garage with a quote of just over £10g's for a reconditioned turner engineering engine and turbo plus all the tosh that goes with It.... now a friend of my sisters who owns a landcover camping experience rental in Cornwall has suggested getting a new/reconditioned transmission as well while the engines being taken out, he's recommended Ashcroft transmissions, would it be wise to get a new clutch at the same time, my thinking is with a new engine of 0 miles fitted with parts over 112,000 miles, or is it a case of if its not broken don't replace it ????. I will be calling the garage on Monday morning 22nd to have the engine ordered and work begins.

how far do you want to go, clutch and flywheel are a must ,but id have looked for a low miler engine same engines as the disco barring the power steering pump
hi I hadn't thought of the flywheel tbh i'm not a mechanic so after posting this I will be googling what that is .... the garage which by the way is a Land Rover specialist only. did give me a second quote of £4g's all in with a second hand Ebay engine from a disco but that was £600+ with 100,000+ miles on it and no guarantee that its no better than the one iv just lost, so its pricey but reassuring to get the recondish 0 miler.

I would DEFINITELY replace it at this stage since everything is going to be out anyways.

What happened with the old engine? Not the dreaded oil bolt was it???

That turner renew is going to be so sweet man, years of life to come.
hello, i'm afraid i'm not entirely sure I know that something cracked likely from overheating expanding... and diesel was leaking in to the oil sump . it also had an RPM error report and something else, I was told this is a common cause of the turbo blowing as well, sadly ill be honest its overloaded in the rear with tools and I am looking at uprating the springs I have heard airbags are also recommended, but ultimately I am blaming myself of over speeding the poor girl simply being late for work and doing 85,90mph on the A3/M25 and the other suspected reason was my impulsive drag/tow of an illegal parked car blocking my way which I moved with its handbrake on up a hill about 20/30 metres up asphalt.. I can safely say this new engine is a one time deal and I won't be abusing it,
the next best thing is that a guy who works for stormtunning also works for the garage its being worked on so I will be having it stage 2 re-maped as well.
sorry for boring you with my sob story, and disuse of my lady.

injector washers can leak but so can a cracked head this puts diesel in the oil thinning it then ruining turbo and any surface relying on lube

This Land Rover specialist, I'm assuming from the costs they are a main dealer ??

A low miler is good if you get what you think you are getting I was lucky when I changed my TD5 in the discovery as engine all seams good 2 years on touch wood, cost about 1k in all. It is good if you can see and drive car engine comes from but not always that easy, with the rebuilt engine you know what you are getting and turner are the best or one of the best, but 10k

i think im fairly aware of the risks since its my job,you buy them from a reputable supplier with a guarantee, most do have to consider the cost

ok damn it :( sounds like you all agree that the pumas not the way to go ill stick with the td5 from turners, thank you guys for helping sorry I replied so late. :)
