TD5 engine drone at 1100rpm

I have just purchased a 2001 TD5 manual after my old faithful 200Tdi was stolen 3 weeks ago.
Can anybody tell me if the droning noise coming from the engine at 1100-1200rpm is something I need to worry about, or is it a characteristic of this unit.

If the car is fitted with ACE, check there are no little stones jammed between the ACE valveblock and the chassis - outside face of chassis about level with drivers seat.(RHD)

Its probablt Vince Cobly droning on about how good Td5's are.
