Got a very nice 2002 discovery 2 that er indoors adores. Car recently developed a starting problem. Just the same as an old style diesel with air in the system. Once it does start, runs great for about 5 mins then peters out. At this point, the pump sounds like its pumping air. Changed the fuel filters, pressure regulator & fuel pump. Must add, car has never been run out of fuel.
I guess this has been banded about on here before in several different guises but would like some ideas from the Guru collective please. Could also do with getting it sorted to speed the return of tranquility to our cave!

May be worth mentioing, Disco went well with no starting & running problems BEFORE we had an exchange transfer box fitted. This was carried out without removing the main auto box. Possibly not related but who knows!

Right, will investigate further!
Could a faulty injector wiring harness cause this type of problem?
Any ideas who is the favourite Landy wizz in the Vale of evesham area?

pull the red plug on the ecu if it has oil present you need a new injector harness, it could give similar symptoms but doesnt generally cause cutting out, more like rough running

OK Guru collective!
A quick update on the progress so far.
New fuel pump.
New pressure regulator.
New harness to injectors.
New fuel filter
New injector seals.
Renewed AA membership.
Did 3 miles this afternoon before it cut out.
Tried the ECU off our other TD5, went 7 miles before stopping.
Any more suggestions appart from fire & collect the insurance?

Did it start straight back up?

Did the fuel pump sound noisey or gargley?

Did the diagnostics, no fault showing. As for the fuel pump, was noisey as hell so changed it for a new one. This one is also noisey.....but not as noisey. The old pump sounded almost like a cat having an operation without the benefit of anaesthetic!

Sorry all, forgot to say. Damn thing is a bitch to start after it cuts out as well as mornings etc. And yes Mr Ratty, there is a gurgle from the pump. You would think it was pumping air with liquid in it rather than liquid with air in it.

It may be worth checking the fuel pipes for signs of chaffing on the chassis.

It certainly sounds like air or exhaust gasses in the fuel

Fuel pipes over the tank have got rubber hoses clipped onto them. I guessed for protection. No sign of fuel around the fuel tank area.
