Hi all, recently bought a 'w' reg td5 disco. was driving along, the car suddenly stopped, wouldn't start at all.

after a lot of testing etc, found there was no output from the ecu to the injectors.....does anybody have any ideas??

many thanks in advance!

Hi,

Have you got a copy of the Rave download manual?

Also, have you tried putting it on diagnostics to se eif anything shows up?

Finally an issue that will stop the TD5 is the Crank sensor which is in the bellhousing.

Cheers

thanks for the reply! ive got signal from the crank sensor so I'm fairly happy with that. no I don't have a rave manual.....and ive only got a basic code reader, but that hasn't shown anything up. cheers

Also, the previous owner said the pump was a bit dodgy....would low fuel pressure cause it not to send a signal to the injectors from the ecu?

How did you check that there's no output from the ECU to injectors and that there is good crank signal though if you dont have a dedicated tester, did you use an oscilloscope?

I put a multimeter on everything, the car cranks fine, turns over really well, just nothing from the ecu to the injectors

The fact that it cranks doesnt mean that the ECU gets the crank signal from the sensor and you can't check that with multimeter as it's not a 50Hz wave, nor the output from ECU to the injectors, you need to diagnose this with dedicated tester or oscilloscope cos at this point i'm not sure that your statement with the signal from ECU to injectors is valid

As above, you're gonna need diagnostics on that - PROPER diagnostics as above. IME, anything else is a waste of time.

yeah, I think ive just got to the bottom of the problem! the fuel pump is in pieces, there are parts of it laying in the bottom of the cage/tank, I'm assuming low fuel pressure would cause it to not function properly?!
