TD5 Defender towbar electrics

Hi People I have a 2002 Defender TD5 ,I connected a plug into the tow bar socket but had no power from it ,the socket on the Landy looked very corroded so I went and bought a new one and connected it but still no power from it any ideas please , no fuses appear to have blown

is the other end from the socket plugged in? It has a multiplug on it.
 
When you say you bought a plug, have you replaced the plug but left the existing wiring loom?

I just did the same, but as I am sure you found the copper wires are all black, I fanned the cores out and scraped the surface corrosion off to ensure good electrical contact and the socket works well.

If that fails try checking wher the cable plugs into the Defender wiring loom, this is an exposed connector block under the rear o/s wheel arch and is exposed to the elements. Ensure that there is power there.

It maybe better to just replace that cable with a new one from a LR parts supplier that plugs straight in, they are usually not that expensive though you will need to fit the towing socket on still.

Just to be sure are you talking about a 12N towing socket (standard) or a 12S extra socket for a cravan etc (usually white cover)
