So Ive established that my injector seals and washers are not the cause of my rising oil level - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=55667

Ive decided that I'll go for a refurbished cylinder head from: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DI ... 0005.m1851

Ive looked and found this fairly helpful thread on removal of the physical head;- https://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-and ... l-how.html.

I guess Im asking is there any other advice or recommendations anyone would make on the topic.
Which head gasket set to use?
Do head locating dowels come with head gasket kits or need to buy separately?
Replace head and rocker shaft bolts?
Is gasket sealant required on any of the gaskets I'll be disturbing?
Any other parts to replace while head off - within reason?
I dont have locking pins for camshaft / crankshaft.
I understand that I'll have the engine at TDC on No1 cylinder when removing the camshaft pulley and I'll mark them to ensure that they go back in right place. Is there any possibility that the timing chain will come off the crankshaft sprocket when the tension is off it and the camshaft sprocket off? I.e, could I be putting it back together with the chain on the wrong position, or can this not happen? I'll not be moving the crankshaft once the chain is removed. (Not sure Ive asked that question very well, hope you understand!)

Any help or advice gratefully received.

Sorry, I can't answer everything but there's loads of information about the cylinder head and refurbishing and refitting it in RAVE.

http://www.green-oval.com/data/lr/rave01.iso

Going by what that says, the main cylinder head bolts should be replaced every time.
The main gaskets, cyl. head, inlet and exhaust manifolds are usually fitted dry with no extra sealant. the joint between the cylinder head and the camshaft carrier does require very careful application of sealant; RAVE gives full details.
RAVE also gives details of setting up the crankshaft/camshaft sprockets and the timing chain.

ive allways had to buy the dowels seperate you dont need sealant but some on the plastic cover for access to cam bolts will help, you can use a drill bit for cam but a crank locking pin is a must imo,as long as cam and crank are pinned it doesnt matter if chain falls off and goes back different and after turning engine over twice refit check its still aligned ie both pins fit,you can reuse all bolts but many fit new its your choice
