My TD5 is cutting out as if out of fuel. It will get to the bottom of the drive or slightly further but will then cut out on a bit of load or even with no load. Then it's hard to start, but after purging the system a number of times it will go again and run perfectly. Since it started to do this I have changed in this order, fuel filter, injector harness, fuel pressure regulator with gasket and new O ring, another new filter, fuel injector seals copper and O rings, fuel pump in the tank, also nothing shows on diagnostics. When every one of those items have been replaced it will do the same, start up run perfectly and rev away great, then cut out at bottom of drive or slightly further up the road. Also noticed the fuel pump always runs when ignition is switched on it never seems to prime after a few seconds, but will always run the full length of prime timer. I also thought there was air in the fuel system but now after the new pump fitted i dont think so. Help i'm going mad.

We had a similar problem with a '53 td5 at work.

Can't rememeber exactly what sorted it, tbh I think we did sod all and it self fixed.

But yeah it would just run for a minute or so then cut out dead, then once restarted (after priming) it was spot on all day.

We did lift the fuel pump out cos ot wasn't running at one stage, but then it became ok again. Seemed that after some use it repaired itself!

I'm sorry I can't help as such!

Have you checked all your fuel pipes under the car that run from the pump to the engine it sounds as if there is a hole in one of the pipes and it letting air in while it's standing over night.

Something as small as a pin prick will cause this to happen.

The 4 pipes that run over the tank are prone to rubbing against the wiring loom and produce a small hole but are hard to get into see so lift the boot floor and have a look.

Other than this there has to air getting in somewhere.

What brand of fuel pump did you have fitted pal ? If there's air in the system you will hear it hissing out the diaphram on the fpr when you prime it
