Td5 Crank Sensor Location/Replacement.

Hi folks,

I've had some issues with my Td5 (2001) and a mate plugged in his Nanocom. He's told me Air flow meter is u/s and the crank sensor is giving a double reading so may be too close.

Question is, other than on the bellhousing at around 1 oclock position, where the hell is it? I've had a look under there and behind the starter, around the bellhousing is a sound absorbant mat (I presume that's what it is) and there's not enough movement in that to see, or feel where ther sensor actually is. I've looked in the Haynes manual and done a google search, but can't find an actual picture showing it's location in relation to other parts.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Will

Loads of pics can be found via Google. Just search images for the info your looking for.

Hi Discool, Thanks for the reply.
I have found and seen some images like the one you posted. The problem is none of them seem to show it's position in relation to other parts or they're an image, rather than an actual picture.

To quote from RAVE "The CKP is located in the transmission housing with its tip adjacent to the outer circumference of the flywheel."
Other diagrams suggest that you should find it towards the top of the bellhousing on the driver's side of the engine.
Having never looked for it myself, I can't say this is definitive.

Well, I found it.
But, do you think I can reach it!!!
How the hell are you supposed to get to it, especially when working off the ground.
Only way I was able to find it was from above.
Thing is, from above, there's not enough room to get your hand in there and I'm having the same problem from below too.

Thanks Brian47 for your reply.

You need to lay down under the car in a way that your hand can operate a small ratchet. I managed with very big hands, mine had some insulation on top as well which made it even harder, but it can be done. Try a few positions till you can put your hands in there properly.

It is a fiddle.

Thanks tulipandthistle,
I'm gonna try again tomorrow night. I just couldn't seem to get in a position where I could get my hand anywhere near it tonight.

Thanks for the advice.

By the sound of it, major surgery is required here.
You'll need to have a universal ball joint fitted between your wrist and the bottom end of your radius and ulna bones. :D

Hi all,

Can someone please post a pic or dummies guide to finding it. I've had a look and tried following the instructions you've all put above. Either I'm going blind or missing something. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Scott

I assume you have a TD5 then??

ON drivers side of bellhousing looking from bottom of car, look up past the starter motor and you will see the CPS just there on the bellhousing, easy to find if you know where to look.

Cheers
