I have a TD5 Disco with ACE that came in with a broken crank pulley/damper. It broke the 3 pedestals off the main part of the pulley so the balance weight came off and damaged the fan which went into the radiator, a big mess. I fitted a new pulley and within 30 km, the the 2 parts of the pulley had turned so the balance weight pedestals were touching the legs of the inner part of the pulley, making a vibration when you drive and especially when the engine is turned off. The owner said the vehicle also lost power and this is where the clue to the problem is, I think. The alternator, power steering pump, ACE pump, tensioner and aircon pump all turn freely by hand but that could not be the case when running at speed.
Has anyone else ever come across this problem and, if so, what was the cure.
