I want to refresh the coolant system with some new and know that the strength is right. Is there anything I need to know before I do this? I only ask as I have not had it long and therefore don't have a technical manual as yet. I'm not one to make assumptions but would like to know if there are any issues doing this as I have heard the TD5 has an unconventional cooling system.

Just make sure that you use OAT coolant, buy a big bottle from the nearest Land Rover dealer and dilute 50/50. Halfrauds sell ready diluted at twice the price.

If you have anything else than the right OAT coolant, flush the system out a couple of times before refilling, and make sure that you bleed the system thoroughly and then check every day or so for a week for correct level.

Apart from that, the cooling system is pretty conventional, just a lot of pipes compared with most engines.

Thanks for the info, I knew it would be OAT. With regards bleeding, is there anything to do here or just the normal when filling a system? I know some engines have bleed valves to assist but I don't know my way around a TD5 as yet.

also have a good look at the pipes the top hose as it Ts of and drops down the the bottom of the engine can rub on the power steering pipe as does the the pipes going threw the bulkhead to the heater they can rub on the engine lifting eye the pipes are cheap but the oat antifreeze make this job expensive
get the hose pipe in and give it a good flush and then just put 5 liters of oat antifreze in and top up removing the little screw thing on the top hose to get all the air out
