Hello,

Wonder if anyone can give me any advice please?

My 99 TD5 is in the local garage just now getting the clutch changed.

basic facts are we were advised at it's last MOT that the clutch was on it's way out, eg lot of travel in the pedal and the clutch was starting to bite almost when the pedal was released. Clutch had slipped only a couple of times since MOT (Aug 08) til now. Usually only in 4th gear. She has only done less than 4k since MOT.

Garage called me to say that the old clutch was out and was only about 1/4 worn, and it looked as if the gearbox had been out before as one of the bolts seemed to be rounded. Anyway, new clutch has been fitted and the garage said it was not releasing properly. They checked and fitted a new slave cylinder and checked the rod as with all this done there was still 2/3 of travel on the pedal and the garage said that clutch is still not clearing. They are going to try fitting a LR clutch as this was an aftermarket one they are fitting. Guy said that he has done 7 of these series before without any of the problems above. He is not charging me any more labour, only the additional cost of the LR clutch if this is the problem or for any of the parts he has bought in.

Anyone help?? Thanks if you can :)

if the old clutch was not worn out the you need to be having a good look at the duel mass flywheel about 65-75% of the time they need changing the same time as the clutch just like i had to the flywheel was dished so it was only griping on the edges of the clutch plate
these are the cheepest place to get them from Transmission - but as you can seethey are not cheep (£245)
and had the same proble when i had fitted my new clutch it would drag and after removeing the gearbox for the 3rd time i found that the clutch plate was twisted new plate and all was ok

Thanks, the garage did say that the flywheel may need changing at the same time and I was ready for the cost, but garage said flywheel is in good condition.
Will keep you posted on the outcome.

Cheers
