I’ve got a 1999 Defender 90 (TD5) and i’d like to get a central locking kit.

Of the kits I’ve seen on eBay; the majority are for 2002+ defenders, and I’m not having much luck.

Second, is it possible to get Land Rover fobs programmed for the central locking kits?

Any recommendations?

I've got a 1996 300Tdi and I fitted a Hawk central locking kit. DON''T BUY ONE!
To be fair, they're cheap as chips. But, they prove categorically that you get what you pay for. First of all one of the servos failed. No problem, they're cheap so I'll just buy another kit! Then another failed, so I replaced it with another spare from the second kit. Then another failed. However, by this time it turned out that the wiring harness had turned to a solid powder. Investigating the servo, the cable to the terminal just came away. I couldn't cut it back far enough to find copper wire in the middle. The copper had turned to powder that just blended in with the powder the plastic insulation had turned in to.
I found a post on LandyZone that showed a way of wiring the Hawk control unit into the Land Rover alarm key fob, so you wouldn't need to use the Hawke's fob as well as the LR one. I didn't get to try it though. However, if a cheap kit like Hawk's could do that, I'd presume a better quality one could.

Really helpful advice. I was looking at an RDX/Hella/Hawk kit but I think I’ll look at other options now
Will probably be wise. I'll take a picture of the box mine came in and post it later for you to compare.
I'd like to do mine again at some point, with a different kit, but haven't got around to doing it.

From looking again early this morning there is NOT a lot available (alternatives to the Hawk kits) - which is concerning.

Depending on your 10AS immobiliser box, if like my TD5 the immobiliser is prewired for central locking but the relay location on the PCB is empty
Solder in the relay then you can use the original fob to activate the central locking kit via one of the connector outputs, otherwise you will need an aftermarket controller box and fob

Here's a link to setting up central locking on a rear door. No idea if this link still works as I had it saved on a Word document on my laptop for future use.

I'd also found a post on setting up the 10AS box for central locking, as I mentioned earlier, and JimS has just mentioned. I can't remember which forum I got this from because I copied it on to a Word document and saved it as a PDF. I've attached the PDF for you.
