TD5 Bonnet

Currently going through the process of changing my 200tdi bonnet to a TD5 one (200tdi bonnet steel sections very rusty) and can't decide how to solve the bonnet stay problem as they are different.

A TD5 Bonnet stay and associated brackets are not cheap, is there a cheaper alternative like gas struts worth pursuing?

Just weld the hinge bracket on to keep the original bonnet stay.

Thought TD5 Bonnet is all aluminium, so welding won't work, but I might be able to rivet. Thanks for the idea
