Got an odd one...

Not M&S
Autobox functions fine.

The gear position indicator on the 'dash' usually reads D or P etc
This morning for the first time it read all positions at once, looks like a figure of 8 gone mad.

Additionally none of the indicators work.

But here is the thing.
Turn on the ignition this evening waiting for glow plugs to do their thing, the dash indicator read P (Correct) and all indicators worked fine.
Only after starting the engine does the dash gear indictor go nuts an the indicators stop working.

Would really appreciate some guidance with this as I need to go on a business trip in the morning, without indicators it will be painful.

Cheers.

I would look for a bad earth somewhere or possibly alternator connections as sounds like it happens when alternator starts working and pushes voltage up

thats the worst news you can get, not odd but extremely BAD...its a crossed B, which means failed BCU or interior fusebox/IDM(90%BCU, 9% fusebox, 1% the link between them), no way to figure it out for sure only by replacing them... start with the fusebox it used to be water ingress there (so it used to be at the BCU too though) but the fusebox is plug and play(unplug it check for corrosion at the plugs then when you plug it back turn ignition to II and wait 5 minutes to re-establish communication with the BCU ...i dont envy you...do something ASAP cos if its the BCU you might end up immobilised or get any of the symptoms described in the links below

Took the BCU out and their was blue fur around two of the wire connectors.
Cleaned all the connectors with contact cleaner...et voila.

Thanks for the info.

Appears sorted for now...mind you there is obviously water ingress somewhere.
If anyone has experience of finding where the water ingress atypically comes from....pointers appreciated.
