TD5 Air Suspension

Hi,
Battenburg's instruction and guide was VERY helpful an air suspension, thanks! Stiill got a problem though ... Basically the suspension collapsed on one side (Drivers). The car was taken to a garage who said that the air bag had failed. I fitted new bags according to the instructions. However, the bags inflate but the car will not jack up. The suspension is now level but will not rise on start up OR rise to "off road" height. I have checked the valveblock and both solenoids are working. It seems that the compressor does not have enough power to lift the car. Is this normal (2000 model 53000 miles)? When the compressor runs on start up, the car does not lift, hence I suspect the compressor is worn out.. Any feedback will be MUCH appreciated! Do I need to "trick the computer into thinking the car is down? I have tried releasing all the pressure and starting again - this does not work. I have tried jacking the chsssis right up and pumping but this does not work.

Find somebody with a Nanocom or equal and check, if not possible buy one or visit the official stealer

Thanks, but please excuse my ignorance, but what is a nanocom....? I live in Zambia and the nearest thing to a good dealer is DIY - hence the forum. Has anyone experienced this before? It seems to me that the compressor is just not man enough to make the pressure any more ... but I need a second opionion as this is my first encounter with this problem. What pressure should the compressor be able to make?

As u described what's happening it seems that it's the compressor indeed...I dont think in this case a scantool will help cos u dont have warning on dash(so the ECU doesnt have stored faults (or it has something historical unrelated with whats happening now......first of all check the air inlet filter behind the left rear tail lamp...or disconnect the air intake pipe to the compressor ...maybe u are lucky and its just the intake clogged and that's why the compressor cant "suck" enough air to pump it into the bags....though if the compressor is defect itself u can improvise with a good tyre inflator see this >

Thanks Sierrafery, I will check for a blockage in the intake filter. Good Point. There is a system error on the dash - but only AFTER you try to engage the "off-road" height. The Off Road indicator then flashes continuously after a single beep so I think the sysytem is working properly since the ECU recognises that the car has not raised to expected height. On start up there are no warning lights left on. I will check the filter. Thanks

Wow! Zambia I would invest in a Scantool anyway. Just to be prepared for future problems.
