Hello again everyone. The suspension on my 2000 td5 disco has decided to drop once more. i have fitted new bags ,compressor in the last 12 months. the suspension has not dropped to the stops but is quite close. It has just started to happen, would it be possible that the cold weather has something to do with it, frozen lines ,compressor ? Any thoughts out there?
 
Speaking from experience, when one side drops the other side tries to compensate, (self-levelling suspension) so maybe see which side drops 1st if you can get it lifted again. then swap the sensors over (they're not handed) and if the other side then does it you know which one it is.

A question for those on here that know more about this than me:

I've cleaned out the filter for the SLS behind the nearside light cluster before just in case this can cause problems, anyone got the part number for the foam filter? Had a look on RAVE to no avail....maybe the OP should have a look at it and could this be full of gunk and maybe stopping airflow?
 
Why didnt u try to read some fault codes? .... the SLS is pretty well covered by diagnostics and u might get ucky to be pointed to the real error....if u have a leak then will be no fault code

Recently dealt with a similar problem while helping a fellow Disco Td5 owner with his machine.

Suspension permanently dropped at about an inch above bump stops. Bags relatively new, height sensors checked ok, no system leaks, compressor and valves in good order. On stopping the engine bags would deflate completely until rear of vehicle resting onto bump stops. Turn engine back on and SLS would raise an inch. SLS warning lamp flashing while rising then continuously illuminated. No fault codes stored in SLABS ECU.

After carrying out the said checks and much head scratching eventually realized the SLS had been set to transportation mode, how this occurred is still a total mystery as the vehicle had not been to a garage or service of any sort and owner does not have the hardware required to change the SLABS settings (i.e. Nanocom, hawkeye, testbook, ..). Must have been a virus!!:D:D:D

Changed Transportation Mode back to Disabled and all was good again!

Something worth checking in your case...

I agree with disco2shaun. Had bother with mine shortly after getting it and unless you are prepared to throw megacash at it getting it code read and changing bits the quickest and cheapest option is to coil it. The only downside is that you loose the ability to raise the rear if you do any serious off roading.
 
Ok boys here is the new update on this suspension rubbish. Had a proper look around the car and with all doors/bonnet closed the compressor was not running, thought stuff it and bought second hand compressor that i saw working on write off. Fitted that, nothing! read some of the comments left and bought 2 new ride height sensors, fitted those this morning, nothing ! checked relevant fuses and the one under the bonnet was blown, hurrah !!! Fitted new fuse the compressor ran and ran and ran until the car started to look like a dragster ! Pulled fuse. Pulled main supply inside compressor box and then undid pipe unions to release pressure until the ride height was acceptable. Now obviously i have many idiot lights on T.C. A.B.S. Hill descent S.L.S etc. What on earth is going on ?
 
Ride height sensors need calibrating? Was it really thet high or are you just used to it's arse being on the floor?

Did you undo negative before doing sensors?

Put the old compressor back on and test it, then you may have a known to be good spare to sell to recoup some hard earned....







and check fuses first next time :eek:
 
Mine blew a fuse so I swapped the ABS fuse to check it & no fuse meant all the dash lights were on.
Have you checked this 30amp fuse?

Mines dropping on the rear drivers side when it's very cold but lifts once the engine is running,I have found if I lift it before I switch off it stays lifted ???

increased pressure keeping a leak shut...I dunno :)

Mine too only started to drop once it got real cold, so did the bags straight away. Don't want the compressor throwing it's toys out of the pram! Not too bad a job, really, just wrap up!
